The Journey to Lancashire

I was christened Kenneth Insull Burman so, having been given the traditional family middle name, and encouraged by the Burman families interest in its history, it was inevitable that I should have spent over 45 years pursuing this fascinating hobby.

The railway town of Earlestown and in particular the Wagon Works, was the magnet that drew  the various branches of my family to the area at the end of the 19th century. Although from different backgrounds members of all branches worked at the "Viaduct" at various times. I was born within a mile of the works and this site details the results of my research into all my ancestral lines and their various journeys to eventually come together in this small Lancashire town.

The Burman Family of Warwickshire

The BURMAN's of Tanworth are a well known Warwickshire family has been well documented in a number of books written by various family members. Other names associated with the family I have researched include FIELD, HOLBECHE, SMITH & ROBBINS.

Descendents of Insull BURMAN (1786 - 1850) - Having been given the family name my research has inevitably concentrated on the first member to be baptised with the name which became a tradition throughout the whole family. This branch became probably the most prolific and wide spread.

Atkinsons of Hutton Roof

My mothers maiden name was ATKINSON and my research into the families journey from Westmorland through Lancashire to eventually meet up with the Burman's in the railway town of Earlestown are detailed here. Other associated names include, HOLME , HEBBLETHWAITE THORNTON, BRADBURY & MASSEY.

This site covers all the people I have discovered in my research, with the exception of those still living. It provides details of births, marriages and deaths, together with basic source information. It was created to make contact with family members and potential relations, so if you have an interest in any of the people covered please get in touch. I have much more information, photos and documents.
